    Operational Guidelines for Integrating Environmental and Climate Aspects into Civilian CSDP Missions

    These guidelines are a follow-up to the 2020 Climate Change and Defence Roadmap and aim to provide a basic toolbox for the integration of environmental and climate aspects into civilian CSDP missions. Their purpose is manifold: to raise awareness in missions, to optimise the use of resources and energy in missions, to integrate environmental security and environmental crime considerations into mission mandates and, in the long term, to provide host states with best practices in greening the security sector.

    These official EU guidelines instruct partners in external actions on how to ensure proper visibility and strategic communication of the EU’s role. They cover the use of the EU emblem and funding statement, the conditions for co-branding and derogation and the requirements for strategic communication plans and activities. They provide a useful description of standard use of the EU’s visual identity and a step-by-step guide to formulating a strategic communications plan.

    How to Increase the Representation of Women in Civilian CSDP Missions: Compilation of Experiences and Good practices

    In 2021, the informal NIP Cluster led by Finland and Spain and supported by the European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management (CoE), organised a series of virtual workshops where Member States and EU institutions presented examples of national and EU policies and practices to ensure equal opportunities for women and men seconded to in civilian CSDP missions and to improve gender balance.     The European Union Training Mission in Mali: An Assessment

    This SIPRI Background Paper provides an overview of the European Union Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali) and assesses its impact on Mali’s conflict dynamics since it was established in 2013. The paper analyses EUTM Mali’s main training and advisory activities, before assessing its political and operational impacts. It summarises the main factors that account for the mission’s successes and limitations and makes three recommendations to augment the future impact of the mission.
