Launch new CSDP Mentoring Programme for Women

The European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management (CoE) launched the new CSDP Mentoring Programme for Women with a virtual kick-off event.

The kick-off event was opened by the CoE’s Director Volker Jacoby, who welcomed the 32 participants from 10 civilian CSDP missions, introducing the Centre and the mentoring programme. Mihaela Matei, Deputy Civilian Operations Commander, Chief of Staff, Conduct Capability (CPCC), shared personal experiences of her career in CSDP in a dialogue with Lina Andéer, Gender and Women, Peace and Security Advisor at CPCC.

The programme has been developed for international staff – for women, but also men - in civilian CSDP missions by the CoE in cooperation with the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC) of the European External Action Service (EEAS). The success of the pilot project of the mentoring programme in 2021 showed that there was a clear need and appetite for such programme and encouraged the CoE and the CPCC to offer a new mentoring programme this year.

In the course of a nine-month programme mentees and mentors will meet regularly on their mentoring journey. The CoE will support the mentoring relationship by organising training in the beginning and monthly workshops for both mentors and mentees.

Topics of this year’s mentoring programme are centered around leadership and include workshops on ways to create psychological safety in teams, leading difficult conversations and showing up with confidence. The programme has been developed by Taina Järvinen, CoE Seconded National Expert, Lina Andéer, Gender and Women, Peace and Security Advisor at CPCC and Lena Moll, Inclusive Leadership Coach, who also will facilitate the workshops.
