    Crisis and Transformative Learning in Communities of Practice: Semi-Formal Learning in CSDP during COVID-19

    This research article discusses how COVID-19 temporarily created a radical change in the lessons learnt process of CSDP. Using the theoretical framework of Communities of Practice (CoPs), in this case the agencies, EEAS directorates, missions, and other workplace communities and venues for interaction within the CSDP architecture, the researchers find that the pandemic decreased the political contestation between CoPs and created a high-engagement environment where lessons were freely shared among CoPs as they were learned, with PCM (then-ISP) as the knowledge broker.

    The European Union Training Mission in Mali: An Assessment

    This SIPRI Background Paper provides an overview of the European Union Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali) and assesses its impact on Mali’s conflict dynamics since it was established in 2013. The paper analyses EUTM Mali’s main training and advisory activities, before assessing its political and operational impacts.     CPCC Report on Civilian CSDP Lessons 2018

    This report from CPCC identifies structural issues civilian CSDP missions face, reports on the implementation of solutions and provides best practices in specific cases. It is based on input from missions and CPCC and is divided in lessons on planning, on the conduct of operation, on mission support and on horizontal issues (integrated approach, security, duty of care and more). Each section lists lessons which have been learnt in the first Compact and those that were newly identified.
