The joint communication by the High Representative and the European Commission acknowledges the ever-increasing risks to peace and security from both climate change and environmental degradation. The climate and security nexus impacts migration, displacement, pandemics and political instability. The document seeks to update and enhance EU’s external actions. After a risk analysis, it makes suggestions to mitigate them, calling for a more proactive and comprehensive approach within the EU.

The first ever Youth Action Plan provides a political framework and operational roadmap for a strategic partnership with young people in the EU's external action. Its main priority is to ensure youth ownership of EU external action and thus accelerate progress towards sustainable development, equality and peace, in line with international commitments such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development or the UN Agenda for Youth, Peace and Security.

These official EU guidelines instruct partners in external actions on how to ensure proper visibility and strategic communication of the EU’s role. They cover the use of the EU emblem and funding statement, the conditions for co-branding and derogation and the requirements for strategic communication plans and activities. They provide a useful description of standard use of the EU’s visual identity and a step-by-step guide to formulating a strategic communications plan.

Disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of former combatants (DDR) plays an essential role in stabilisation and building lasting peace. DDR is thus an integral part of the EU’s contribution to the non-reoccurrence of violence and to broader stabilisation. This joint communication presents the updated EU DDR policy, drawing on the Global Strategy, the Integrated Approach, and the new EU-wide security sector reform (SSR) framework. It proposes means to support DDR in affected countries and regions in a coordinated, conflict-sensitive manner and in line with international law.

GAP III is an ambitious plan to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through all external action of the European Union. The Women, Peace and Security agenda is one of GAP III’s key areas.

This document issued by the Commission in 2020 pictures the changing security threats and calls for an EU coordinated response. It presents 4 strategic priorities and key-actions for each of them.

The Joint Action Plan (JAP) serves to support the implementation of the 2018 Civilian CSDP Compact on the EU level, by the European External Action Service (EEAS) and Commission services. As such, the JAP is complementary to the Member States’ National Implementation Plans (NIPs).

This document aims at guiding the identification, planning and implementation of all EU Security Sector Reform (SSR) related external action. The overall goal is to support partner countries’ efforts to ensure 1) security for individuals and the state; and 2) the legitimacy, good governance, integrity and sustainability of the security sector of partner countries.
