ZIF world map peace operations 2024/25

The ZIF map provides information and figures on missions of the UN, EU, OSCE and other organisations, as well as on the respective German participation of the Bundeswehr, police and civilian experts.

The map provides data on the total number of personnel deployed in peace operations, as well as a timeline showing the evolution of this figure since 1992. The decrease in personnel deployed in 2024 is mainly due to the closure of the large UN mission in Mali.

The map also shows the number of personnel deployed by each organisation, broken down by function (civilian, military and police) and by gender. In the case of EU missions, due to a change in EU record keeping, civilian and police personnel are now all counted under the category “Civilian”.

Finally, for each mission, the number of personnel deployed by Germany is indicated into brackets. There are currently around 181 civilian experts working in peace operations, at international organisations in headquarters and in the field, as well as in humanitarian missions.
