List of Publishers on Civilian Crisis Management

This list comprises a variety of institutions publishing research on or relevant to civilian CSDP. These include research articles from academia including several academic journals, some of which will be behind a paywall while some articles will be open-access. There are also several think tanks publishing reports, analysis, and policy recommendations and which frequently write about civilian CSDP and connected topics. Resources specifically covering WPS are included, though the topic may be discussed in the other sources as well.

Academic sources

IFSH Institut für Friedensforschung und Sicherheitspolitik

  • Institute within University of Hamburg publishing reports, briefs, books, and journal articles on current peace and security topics.

Journal of International Peacekeeping

  • Journal primarily focused on the legal and policy issues within international peacekeeping. Founded in 1994 as a yearbook before being expanded into a full journal in 2009.

International Peacekeeping

  • Similar journal, founded in 1994 as first journal to focus on international peacekeeping as operations grew substantially in number following the end of the cold war.

Contemporary Security Policy

  • Journal founded in 1980 publishing theoretically-based research on conflict, intervention, and peacebuilding.

European Security

  • Journal founded in 1992, publishes critical analyses of policy development in EU and Member States and European relations with neighbours as well as non-European viewpoints on European policy.

 

Think tanks

IAI Istituto Affari Internazionale (Institute of International Affairs)

  • Italian think tank discussing international affairs and frequently publishing about CFSP and CSDP.

PRIF Peace Research Institute Frankfurt

  • Think tank focused on research in violent conflict and peacebuilding. Publishes resources in both English and German.

PRIO Peace Research Institute Oslo

  • Think tank in Norway publishing variety of items including policy briefs and reports as well as journals.

Journal of Peace Research 

  • Journal published by PRIO covering global perspectives on the causes and resolution of conflict.

NUPI Norwegian Institute of International Affairs

  • Norwegian public research institute publishing research on a wide array of international affairs topics including peace operations.

SIPRI Stockholm International Peace Research Institute

  • Independent international research institute publishing data, analysis, and policy recommendations on peacebuilding.

DCAF Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance

  • International foundation assisting partner states in improving the governance of their security sector. Also publishes resources on security sector governance.

  • Think tank in Norway publishing variety of items including policy briefs and reports as well as journals. Has a research topic on WPS.

Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security

  • Institute within Georgetown University in Washington DC that engages in research and advocacy on the role of women in peacebuilding and conflict prevention and other global security issues. Produces the Women Peace and Security Index on women’s security around the world.

Centre for Women, Peace and Security

  • Research centre at the London School of Economics bringing together researchers and practitioners in the WPS agenda to produce knowledge and engage with policy actors such as governments and the UN.

WIIS Women in International Security

  • Organisation that mentors women in research and practice within the WPS field. Includes a list of relevant resources.

EIGE European Institute for Gender Equality

  • EU agency that promotes gender equality and provides evidence-based policy advice.

DCAF Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance

  • International foundation assisting partner states in improving the governance of their security sector. Also publishes resources on security sector governance. Has a topic on Gender and Security incl. the Elsie Initiative.

WILPF Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom

  • Feminist peacebuilding organisation with country with country sections around the world. Has its own Knowledge Hub.

UN Peacekeeping

  • UN Peacekeeing website with statistics and relevant documents on gender in UN peacekeeping force.

UN Women

  • UN Women website with information and resources on WPS.
