Mary Walle is the Event Manager at the CoE, where she supports the team of permanent staff and seconded national experts in executing all events, as well as improving how the CoE brings its members together to learn from one another. Mary has a background in event management and program development and is interested in the historical development of border regions and their role in civilian crisis management.

Before joining the CoE, Mary was Program and Development Coordinator at the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association where she led the strategic development of their communications and programming for 2,000 members. Before moving to Germany, she worked at the Center for Court Innovation in New York City as the Youth Justice Program Associate. Her focus was on the intersection of youth leadership development and policy change. Mary also served as a research assistant to Dr. Regina Morantz-Sanchez at the University of Michigan’s History Department. Her approach to program and event development is fundamentally shaped by her experience as a facilitator with the Prison Creative Arts Project while a student at the University of Michigan.

Mary holds a Master’s degree in Global History from the Free University in Berlin. Her master’s thesis was entitled “Refusing the Settler-Colonial Gaze: Archives, Erasure, and the Production of History in Detroit in the 19^th Century.” She also holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Michigan. Mary speaks English, German, and some Spanish.
